This evening, I met with the executive directory and a Bible translation
consultant of the Bible Society of Papua New Guinea. I hand-delivered a
written request for permission for the Crosswire Bible Society to
distribute all of their copyrighted Scriptures, including the Tok Pisin
Bible. (Why not aim high?) We discussed the merits of free distribution,
the economics involved, how they and the people they serve benefit, etc.
They wanted time to consider the decision carefully before answering,
but at least they didn't say "no" right away. I'm guessing that they are
likely to say "yes" at least for everything but the Tok Pisin
(Melanesian Pidgin) Bible. They may say "yes" for that one, too, but
that requires more deliberation, since they actually make money by
selling that one in print.
I'll check with them in about a month or so if they haven't gotten back
to me by then.
Just letting you know that progress is being made...
Shalom,
Michael
