The major disadvantages in mvnForum are:
- no attachments in posts. If users want to add a screenshot to illustrate a problem they can't or have to have their own web space or use dropbox. That's annoying.
- too weak captcha image. there were and are many bots registering.
- no voting
- it's not actually maintained any more.
- many more
I would suggest to keep mvnForum running for reference and lookup but install a new forum software.
