It's been a week or so since I peeked at the directories. I'm sure the
variation is in my head and there is no other weirdness going on. the unix
utility *cat* will deal with subdirectories without blinking.. the example
I listed before includes 1 level of directory, just add another.

I can concatenate these into larger files. does the conversion work with a
single large file, or will you need the individual books separated?

However....

The initial run on my machine took about a quarter second to concatenate,
but while the resulting files are valid, they demonstrate out of order
chapters, sorting them as characters, not digits (\c 1, \c 10, \c 11, etc.)
This is fine if the next step is loading into Paratext, since paratext will
process each chapter on import and reorganize the file properly. This isn't
ok for using the files as pre-publishing text, and will require much more
work for a simple text OSIS conversion, to reorder the directories
properly. Teus' bibledit program can provide a much nicer export, and
that's likely the best alternative.
