Strong's numbers are not meaningless to me.  I use them all of the time. 
Even a first time user who does not even know the Greek alphabet can see the 
number and know where to turn in an Englishman's Greek concordance.  

If at all possible, let's keep every bit of information at every stage.  
Something that is meaningless to someone may have great meaning for others.
