Daniel,
That would be greatly appreciated! Manfred has started with the
menus and I have done the names of the books of the Bible (I know a
tiny bit of German). Basically, if we have prepared the application
for internationalization properly (and we hope we have) then it is a
matter of translating the various property files. The default
obviously is English.

To create a german translation you would create a copy of the
xyz.properties file and name it xyz_de.properties. Then you would
translate the stuff on the right of the = sign.
The two files we have done so far are:
		org.crosswire.bibledesktop.desktop.Desktop_de.properties (Still a
few more strings to translate)
		org.crosswire.jsword.versification.BibleNames_de.properties

Perhaps the easiest way to get started is to translate a file and put
it into your ~/.jsword directory. BibleDesktop looks there for
overrides.
Just copy the file you want to work on, say SectionNames..properties
and name it
org.crosswire.jsword.versification.SectionNames_de.properties.
Change the file from English to German.

You will need to restart the application to see your changes.

There are two kinds of property files. Msg.properties, which mostly
contains error messages. Since most errors are uncommon they can be
translated later. Sometimes they contain general messages. These
appear frequently and would need to be translated. There is no
indication as to which is which, but if you find where they are used,
it is pretty easy to tell.

The other kind of property files defines buttons, menu choices and
other actionable items. These generally are in a file whose name is
that of the class that uses it. There is a name field which is the
text of the button/menu choice/etc, a short description and a long
description (which are used for tooltips) There are also mnemonics
and accelerators which should be changed to what's appropriate for a
German application.

When you have something ready, let us know and we'll discuss the best
way to submit the change.

If you have any questions, please post to jsword-devel, you should
have been added by now.

In His Service,
	DM
