I was looking more at processor usage. I can't speak for all versions, but the windows 8.0 that came with my laptop had most win32 apps running extetemely slowly and some wouldn't run at all or locked the entire computer. This is much better now (after win8.1 and probably other updates), but 64bit apps /feel/ more responsive still. But I will download the win32 calibre and see if it performs any differently than the win64 version
