Initial Comment:
I am using BibleTimesvnr1823 on WindowsXP

I opened three commentaries, the Abbott, the Barnes and the Clark.
Then I selected ALT -> Search -> Search In Open Works.
I typed a random word, in this case the word 'Plant'
BibleTime asked me if I want to create am index and it warned me that it would take a while.
I said oked the index creation and it was mostly done when BibleTime crashed.

I have not had any luck in recreating this problem.
