I disabled new registrations on the servers, which I predict will 
prevent the pegging problem.

I couldn't find a sensible way to switch off registrations through the 
admin panel, so I went after the addmember.jsp file itself and moved it 
to 
/home/forums/servers/main/webapps/forums/mvnplugin/mvnforum/user/addmember.bak
