I am running Ubuntu 21.04 and Xiphos seems to run just fine installed from its apt repositories, but I usually recommend that people stay on LTS releases of Ubuntu and its variants (currently 20.04). In your particular case, you may try uninstalling Xiphos using synaptic or the Software store, and installing the Flatpak version, which might run better for you (I hope). As far as I know, Xiphos is not available as a snap.

I've been running Ubuntu Mate 20.04 and Xiphos runs, but the prayer
journal and study pad do not work. They do not open for editing.

Because I love Xiphos so much, I'm willing to switch distros. What one
should I run so as to be able to fully use Xiphos again?
