Oops. That should probably be something like this:
./waf configure --prefix=/usr/local --gtk=3 --with-webkit-editor-enabled

Or it should be close to something like that, I think. Check out the entire GitHub conversation.

Laurie, I believe these instructions I received from user refdoc on Github for Xiphos will fix your problem; they did mine, but I am on Ubuntu 18.10 now and have not tried it again. I am curious now, and want to try it again on 18.10 in the next few days myself.

Specifically:

Check out the current GIT source tree with:

git clone https://github.com/crosswire/xiphos.git

Then build under Linux using:

cd xiphos
./waf configure --prefix=/usr --gtk=3 --enable-webkit2
./waf build
sudo ./waf install

I hope this helps!

I just tried to build on Ubuntu 18.04 - on two separate installs

Sword 1.8.1 from SVN seems to build successfully on both - checked the conf and usr/bin

On the first,

Xiphos 4.1 from Git fails as it cannot find libgtkhtml4 or gtkhtml editor - I have not been able to locate an install candidate this build dependency ??

On the second, all dependencies seem OK, but does not locate the new sword 1.8.1 and replaces it with ver 1.73 !!

...I need to do a bit more research !

Cheers

Laurie

Good afternoon group.

Has someone packaged the most recent version of Xiphos for Debian systems (I'm running Ubuntu 18.04)? The most recent version available in the repositiories is 4.0.7, and the Prayer List/Journal doesn't work properly. When I right-click on the right pane, it opens Studypad but the text of the journal doesn't appear in the editing window. I'm hoping the new version works as advertised.

Thanks!
