Hi Michael,

Thank you for taking a look at Tap Bible and the detailed feedback. Just to clarify how things currently work: both the cross-reference previews and the book abbreviations are linked to your phone's language setting, and both prioritise the Bible you're currently reading if its language matches your phone's locale. So for most users these will already appear in the correct language.

The case you've described — English previews and abbreviations while reading a Spanish translation — happens specifically when the phone is set to English but the user is reading a translation in a different language. However, you raise a good point and I'll investigate further.

It's worth noting this is a first release and the whole app was written more or less from scratch — including ksword, the underlying Bible engine, which leans heavily on the logic from the well-established JSword library. There is an awful lot of work still to do, so feedback like this is really valuable in helping prioritise what matters most.

Thanks again for such thorough testing.

Martin

On Mon, 20 Apr 2026 at 21:46, Michael <mpj@ebible.org> wrote:

I just tried a few more things. The cross reference previews would be MUCH better if they came from the same translation as the cross reference is found in. For example, I tapped on a cross reference in a Spanish translation, then on the reference, and lo and behold, an English preview of the contents of that reference appeared. Now someone who was only fluent in Spanish would probably not find that useful. Indeed, even in English, it is best if the translation exactly matches the one that is selected in
the main reading window. Also, the abbreviations used to select books would be good to present in the user's own language, or at least in an appropriate language of wider communication for their area (like Spanish for the Chorti translation of Guatemala).
Then there are bookmarks and ribbons...

But still, I really like the speed and ease of finding, loading, and reading a Bible translation in Tap Bible.
