It is going back and forth what is the appropriate markup: Name element or abbreviation element for semantic markup and/or using the highlight element, hi, with overline. It was noted that overline is supported in SWORD but not JSword.

<br>I’d like to suggest that if the expansion element is present that it is indexed/searched at the same position as the text.
<br>
<br>Example, pretend this is Greek:
<br> For <abbr expansion=“God” type=“nomina-sacra">Gd</abbr> so loved the world
<br>Then a search for the exact phrase
<br> “God so loved the world”
<br>would return the verse.
<br>
<br>Not indexing/searching the expansion wouldn’t find God in the verse.
<br>
<br>Having it at the same position is necessary for exact phrase search.
