Specifically, I'd like to have get to a full LaTeX exporter at some point, i.e. supporting the options (Word of Christ in Red, etc.). I don't really see how that could be done without using the API.</div>

</div>Only starting now to get to grips with latex, but FWIW, Latex allows<br>
embedding of various languages into new macros, so a use of e.g. the<br>
Perl bindings within Latex is entirely feasible and would be a great<br>
addition.<br>

I think that is the way to go and not via some circuitous shell<br>
construct.<br>
