Hi David .....  I'm very interested in this project.  I looked at it a 
year or so ago when I filed one of the issues you mention.  I took a 
careful look through usfm2osis.pl.  I have never worked in Perl 
(usfm2osis is not Python).  But the syntax is so similar to C that I 
could get my head around it given time.  However, I took one look at the 
regular expression stuff and gave up.  I found it totally mind 
boggling.  Maybe it's easier than it looks.

If someone can point me to an easy-to-follow regular expression 
tutorial, I'd be willing to spend an hour or two studying, and then 
possibly feel I'm able to contribute.
