are all automatically deducted by the engine, but something like Pss for Psalms is not. 

The abbreviation section does therefore two things - 1) it highlights non-deductable abbreviations and 2) it ensures that ambiguous abbreviations are correctly assigned - Jud could theoretically be Judges, Letter of Jude or Judit, but in reality it is always the Jude letter.
