Your timing was perfect. ;) Around the same time plus or minus a few
hours launchpad and rosetta were finally open sourced.

I'd also like to mention http://transifex.org which isn't tied to any
distro[1] but can be deployed locally for a project. Afaiu it can be
integrated directly with upstream VCS.

fwiw I haven't looked at rosetta lately to see if it has improved
since its early bad reputation messing up upstream translation. I hope
so :)

I'm sure both are good for translating gettext .po files. Hopefully at
least one of them can deal nicely with the java style properties
translations of swordweb and Bible Desktop.[2]

[1] It has been developed by Fedora folks, and I think to help with
GNOME but isn't tied to those.
[2] or however it is that those work that isn't gettext based.
