I have a USB flash memory stick with PortableApps on it for those
occasions when I visit unenlightened clients (i.e. they bought the
Microsoft marketing pitch). The system appears to work well despite it's
imaturity as a product. There had been a significant time delay between
release of their menu manager and updates to major components. But this
seems to have been resolved with the addition of other developers to the
team.

PortableApps only accept open source applications into their archive. This
excludes free products that are similar to Sword because they are not open
source. Wouldn't prevent the other products from developing and
hosting their own PortableApps executable but they can't get the PA
imprimatur.
I am unable help with any PortableApps development because my home network
is UNIX-based either Linux or Mac OS X. The NSIS tools are all Windoze
based and I would rather not give disk real estate or processor cycles to
emulators just to host NSIS development. Not enough desire to do this to
re-port LyX and its support tools; these are critical to my work and the
current PA LyX set does not work.
