The downside of that page's recommendation to use the standard Debian
repos is that the version of GnomeSword present there is chronically way
out of date.  domcox' builds are always very recent.

GS' current release is 2.3.5, and progress is lately quite rapid, with
the bug list down to one item (that I can't deal with myself; I'm
waiting for Terry, who is traveling) and a small army of new features
being added.  2.3.6 will probably happen in less than a month, given how
much I've been doing with it in the last couple weeks.
