Sorry - the last commits I made were getting into quite a mess and I 
forgot about logging!  Thanks for your latest work.  It's just great!  
And while testing I spotted a silly problem in simplenavigator that I've 
corrected (with a log entry :-[ ). 

Just now, I'm getting really tangled with all of these new string types 
and how to convert one to the other.  Some of the strings tangle round 
my feet and trip me up, and I've sure I've got some of the strings 
around my neck ..... arrrgh ......  anyone know of some simple demos 
that show conversion between the various string types?
