My only joke was in suggesting that the kernel is unnecessary. Of course 
you need a kernel--how else will you run emacs? I would also push 
strongly for the full (real) emacs. None of these micro-versions. And 
definitely not Xemacs.

It's standard on... everything that comes on media larger than a floppy.
