AFAIK, not a problem.

In more detail, but OTToMH, GIF files use a specific LZH-style acronym which 
has copyright issues in the USA only. ZIP is shipped by both Debian and 
Mandrake Linux, neither of which would do so if any question hung over its 
copyright/patent status.
