To my knowledge, it's kind of like that.  I think their only protection of
purchased vs. free modules is a key/password on the module's installer
itself.  Once it is installed, I believe all modules are essentially the
same and use a different set of passwords which are never revealed to the
users (both on purchased & free modules) on their database files.
