Paul,

You "hit the nail on the head."  That was the problem.  I had installed
Mandrake as a workstation instead of "development," so it didn't install the
"devel" RPMs.

I just downloaded and installed the libstdc++-devel now and it's
compiling with no errors!

P.S.  Have any URLs that would walk me through some basics of creating text
modules?  I have the general idea, but if there are any hints or tips, that'd
be great.  Thanks again.
