Resolution: 
This has already been accommodated:
With OSIS 2.0 (a change from OSIS 1.5) there can be no spaces within the
string match portion of the reference.  Previously you had to use a long
enough string to not be ambiguous.

Examples:
Gen.3.4@s[word] is the same as Gen.3.4@s[word][1]
Gen.3.4@s[word][3] is a reference to the third occurrence of "word" with
in Gen.3.4
