Have only glanced at the following proposal but generally speaking I
like the idea of a distinction between the work and reference system. I
think it removes some of the ambiguity that was being interjected by
merging the two. Not that much more work to make the two explicit,
although, it can be argued that saying a work follows a particular
reference system is a claim about the work (unlikely for modern
(post-Gutenberg) texts or modern editions of older texts, since they
usually have a fairly explicit reference system). Probably a point only
of interest to academics and not really relevant at this point.
