Two related ideas:

1. After tapping a chapter, a translucent linear overlay of verse
numbers appears along the side of the screen (sort of "zoomed out").
You can tap a number to go there, or it fades out after a few seconds
or another movement, and can be brought up individually somehow.

2. When you press down on a chapter, the other half of the screen
becomes a verse list or grid. Swiping over to a verse number before
releasing your finger goes straight there.
