Martin,
<div class="">Makes me quite angry.</div>
<div class=""><br class="">
</div>
<div class="">Assuming AndBible is GPL. If they modify any part of
it they are obligated to post the software. I suggest asking
them for their fork of the code. It has to be public. If they
don’t, complain to Google that they are violating the license
agreement and ask for a takedown on that basis.</div>
<div class=""><br class="">
</div>
<div class="">If they do that, they are free to fork and even make
money with it. (I don’t like that aspect of GPL.)
<div class=""><br class="">
</div>
<div class="">The GPL is a distribution license, not governing
copyright. The GPL does protect copyright. You’ll want a clear
copyright statement in each and every file.</div>
<div class=""><br class="">
</div>
<div class="">Assuming you are the sole author (e.g. code and
resources/translations), then as the sole copyright owner of
AndBible (not JSword) you can change your license to anything
of your choice. It won’t be retroactive. I’m not recommending
that, though.</div>
<div class=""><br class="">
</div>
<div class="">I looked at a few of these and it appears that
they rip off lots of other programs as well. Not sure how to
track down the original owners, but having a joint effort may
be of help.</div>
<div class=""><br class="">
</div>
<div class="">Couple of thoughts:</div>
<div class="">Have a build time attribute that is manually
entered, that does one or more of the following:</div>
<div class="">- disables a random timer (or event counter) that
causes a program crash/exit without warning.</div>
<div class="">- disables a random timer that causes a screen
declaring that the program has been ripped off from AndBible.</div>
<div class="">- show credits, copyright and license when the
program is opened for the first time each upgrade.</div>
<div class="">Get everyone you know to leave one star reviews
for these apps, declaring them an rip-off (Just like Peter
did).</div>
<div class=""><br class="">
</div>
<div class="">Use an obfuscator to make the code that does such
a thing impossible to read and hard to reverse engineer. Check
it in and appropriately copyright it and license it. Make it
such that if it is not called that the program doesn’t work.</div>
<div class=""><br class="">

<div class="">In Him,</div>
