No offense is assumed here. 
I am from China. I read both Simplified and
traditional Chinese. But I read simplified most of the
time simply because I am not familiar with some of the
older words. I never relate the simplification of the
chinese characters with Mao. Not many people from
China are attached to Mao. I like the beauty of the
traditional chinese but does not like the fact that
the traditional chinese is complicated and take longer
time to write.
We use both traditional Chinese and simplified chinese
bible in our church and I never heard any strong
opinion rather than a person preference.
