Thanks, I downloaded the libraries and copied them over to /usr/local/share/
doc/bibletime, and it feels like it takes longer but I still get a segfault 
before any debug messages are given. I'll see if I can't get a core dump and 
see where it's failing. 

Incidentally, do I need all the translations or could I build just the English 
ones, for instance? If I try to build the docs myself it fails on an Arabic 
translation. (don't remember if it's the handbook or howto PDF).
