Hello Peter!
I am Jaak (jotik), and I am a Computer Science student currently near the end of my
masters degree studies. I've done C++ since 2001 and Qt since 2005, approximately. I too
like Linux best, especially Gentoo Linux. I also started with BT by providing an et_EE
translation. I started hacking the BibleTime source code in summer 2009, by providing some
bugfixes and optimizations to the code. My main role in the BibleTime project has been to
refactor the existing codebase to make it more managable, modular, stable and
good-looking. My biggest contributions to BibleTime are the bookshelf model and the
bookshelf tree model, which I'm still trying to integrate with the rest of the code.
The next short-term goals of BibleTime are in the TODO list here:
http://devel.bibletime.info/wiki/Development_Plan#Next_release:_BibleTime_2.7
In case you want something specific to work on, you could try to start working on the
"Module chooser bar/buttons" item from the TODO list. More specifically, on a new
BtModuleChooserBar widget. Although the new widget by itself would likely be quite easy to
implement, integrating it will likely be a very painful process at the moment, so in case
you want to work in it, I suggest not to integrate it right away.
But you're also free to just browse the code and look for things you can and want to
improve and start working on them.
I strongly suggest you hang around #bibletime on FreeNode IRC network to get to know each
other a bit better and to discuss development. Its not a very active channel but
definitely worth to join. Other FreeNode channels are also very helpful, e.g. #Qt or
#sword. Also please state your timezone. From time-to-time since last summer we have also
had audio conferences using Mumble/Murmur to discuss development. For any
development-related questions the mailing list and our IRC channel are probably the best
places to ask.
Best regards,
Jaak Ristioja
