Hello, all. I've been away from Bibletime for a long time because of
problems using on a 64-bit platform. I eagerly returned after a year or
so because I really like the product. I've found there are still
several issues that make it difficult to use.
I am running Bibletime 1.6.4 out of the Ubuntu repositories on fully
patched Hardy (8.0.4 I believe) with libsword6 version 1.5.9-8 also out
of the Ubuntu repositories on an AMD64 laptop.
There is still a problem where personal comments are saved with file
names that are either much larger than expected (I believe they are
supposed to be a numeric sequence) or contain bad characters. I do not
know for sure but this smells like a 32 bit to 64 bit conversion problem
with bit manipulation.
Also, once I create the comment, I cannot edit it. I can input the
edits but, if I leave the verse and return, the changes are gone. This
is not a permissions issue as you can see from the file list below.
Here is a portion of a listing of the personal commentary directory.
Please not that the names change radically on September 7, 2007. That
is when I switch to a 64 bit system. Also note the files names are in
the 46 trillion range. This makes me suspect the bit manipulation was
unexpectedly left filled with ones. Something changed again when I
moved to the Ubuntu repository version. This increased the value of the
file names to the 139 trillion range. Please also notice the files
created with questionable initial characters (displayed as "?").
I realize this could very well be a sword issue but thought I would
start here. I'd love to go back to Bibletime but this is making it
problematic. Thanks for all you've done and, if anyone would care to,
please pay me a visit at http://www.spiritualoutreach.com - John
