Here are some things to look for.  I run Mandrake 7.0 but I think 6.2 may be close to same type of configuration.  Look in /etc/sysconfig for a file named "desktop" if its there make sure it has one word "KDE" in it (all caps, no quotes).  Also there should be a file in /etc/X11 called "prefdm", if you run it you should get the kde graphic login box.
