JSword is a library which BibleDesktop uses. JSword is not a program.
BibleDesktop.exe is a MS Windows program. And won't run on Linux. But we
have 3 ways to run it on Linux.
For each of them you first need to install Java 1.4.x or Java 1.5.x from
Sun. You only need to install the JRE, but you can also install the JDK
if you wish. You can find instructions on how to do it here:
http://www.crosswire.org/jsword/linuxjava.html. You may need to adapt it
slightly for your distribution of Linux or for a more recent copy of Java.
Here are the 3 ways:
1) Run it as a WebStart program by clicking on the big blue "Click here
to WebStart me now".
When asked about placing shortcuts on the desktop, I recommend that you
do so.
You can set Java to start a console when the program is executed and you
will see the output in the console window.
2) To run BibleDesktop from the command line you get the a "Binary" zip
or tar.gz file found at www.crosswire.org/jsword/download.jsp.
Unpack it to anywhere you wish. It will have everything in a directory
whose name starts with jsword.
In that directory you will find BibleDesktop.sh. This is the Linux
program. So just run it.
If you desire, you can create a Gnome or KDE launcher for it.
3) You can install BibleDesktop on a CD or a USB stick and run it from
there. Use the instructions found at www.crosswire.org/~dmsmith/bd.
I suggest that you try 2) before this.
I hope this helps.

DM
